The Board will conduct its annual retreat this summer to plan announce for the coming year and to discuss long term goals for AALAM. AALAM Seeks Representative to the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute
The Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI) is a statewide legal support center that represents low-income people, elders, and people with disabilities on matters that impact social and economic justice. MLRI's practice areas include affordable housing, housing discrimination, immigrant and workers' rights, public benefits, and many other civil rights issues. MLRI reserves a seat on its Board of Trustees for a representative designated by AALAM. Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association Offers Office Space
The Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association (GBCCA) has office space available at its Community Center in Newton. Building hours are flexible and include evenings and weekends. AARW Seeks SafetyNet Volunteers
The Asian American Resource Workshop (AARW) is seeking volunteers to assist with revitalizing its SafetyNet program, which provides education about anti-Asian violence and works to prevent hate crimes. Immediately, SafetyNet needs help with reviewing and revising training materials and updating resource and referral lists for a hate crimes training it plans to conduct in the fall. AALAM has received inquiries from public defender's offices and attorneys seeking Chinese-speaking criminal defense attorneys (Mandarin or Cantonese). Executive Director, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law of the BBA
The Lawyers' Committee, which identifies civil rights cases and projects and places them with member law firms, is seeking an Executive Director to manage all aspects of the organization, including identification of cases, legal strategy, management of staff, fundraising, and relations with the Board of Directors and community organizations. The ideal candidate will have 10 years of post-law school experience; 6-7 years of civil rights experience, including litigation, have fundraising, personnel, and budgetary management experience, and be admitted to the Massachusetts bar. Massachusetts Superior Court Seeks Appointees
The Massachusetts Superior Court is updating and compiling a list of attorneys interested in accepting appointments to Superior Court cases as masters, receivers, arbitrators, and guardians ad litem. Law Clerk, Massachusetts District Court
The Massachusetts District Court is hiring three law clerks for the court year from September 2001 to August 2002. Clerkships are open to graduating law students, recent law school graduates, and attorneys admitted to practice for not more than two years. The Massachusetts Superior Court is accepting applications for judicial law clerk positions for 2002-2003. Law clerks assist the Justices with courtroom matters, conduct extensive legal research and writing, and attend trials and motion hearings. Project Coordinator, National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild

Asst. Attorney General, Civil Rights/Civil Liberties Division, Attorney General's Office
The Massachusetts Attorney General's Office is seeking an AAG for the Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Division of the Public Protection Bureau. Duties include handling a broad range of civil rights litigation, which may include housing, public accommodations; credit and employment discrimination, police misconduct, and injunctive actions against perpetrators of hate motivated violence or intimidation. Duties also include performing training and working with various public agencies to enhance civil rights protection. Requirements: 3 years civil litigation experience required. Some criminal preferred. Must be a member of the MA bar. In-Take Staff, American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Massachusetts
The ACLU Foundation is seeking a law graduate, law student or attorney to assist with complaint intake and review for 12 hours per week, beginning in early July. The job requires following up on calls to the office and obtaining facts and law to help decide whether to pursue the complaint. Salary: $15/hour; two weeks of paid vacation per year.
